Why Learn Arabic?
Arabic is spoken in over 22 countries throughout the Middle East and North Africa. It is the fifth most spoken language in the world and one of the official languages of the United Nations. There are 2 main types of Arabic: Classical Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic. The Qur'an is written in Classical Arabic, which is more often a written form nowadays. Modern literature, television and radio all use Modern Standard Arabic.
• Arabic is at least 1,500 years old.
• The Arabic alphabet is actually not an alphabet but an abjad, a system in which each letter stands for a consonant, not a vowel, requiring vowels using vowel marks.
• Arabic has a root system of nouns, verbs, etc that are based on 3 key letters. It’s easy to remember similar word groups!
