TOEFL Test Preparation Programs
What is TOEFL?
The TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign Language) measures the ability of non-native English speakers to use and understand English as it’s read, written, heard and spoken in university classrooms. It is widely used for admissions by colleges and universities in North America. The TOEFL test is also accepted by professional organizations and government agencies as proof of language ability. Score requirements are set by individual organizations.
TOEFL consists of 4 sections (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing), given by a computer at a testing center. It takes about three hours to complete. Each section receives a score of 0 to 30, giving the possibility of a total score from 0 to 120 for the entire test. One of the great things about TOEFL is that you can retake the test for a better score as many times as you’d like. If your score isn’t where you want it, consider taking a test prep class at Indy Language Center.
Why take a TOEFL test prep class?
Test prep classes are specially designed for people who have never taken the TOEFL test before, or experienced test-takers who have the language skills they need for the score they want, but who are still struggling with the test. TOEFL test prep classes are NOT language classes. (We offer English Language classes too!) While the teacher will cover some important grammar or vocabulary problems as you encounter them, test prep classes are focused on the testing experience and strategies to help you score higher on each section of the test. In TOEFL test prep, you will be asked to read passages, listen to lectures or classroom discussions, and respond to questions about them, just like in the real test!
