Hwayoun was born in Seoul, South Korea, and brings a rich international background to her teaching. After living in Minnesota for six years as both a student and a wife, she moved to Indiana in December 2021, where she continues to share her passion for Korean language and culture.
She studied Computer Science in Korea and earned a Master of Science in Health Computer Science from the University of Minnesota. In addition to her academic achievements, Hwayoun holds a Korean teacher’s license (2010) and a Korean–English tour guide license (2007), both issued by the Korean government.
With over 15 years of experience, Hwayoun has taught more than 200 students from over 20 countries. Since 2012, she has served as a Korean instructor at CLT Korea (Korean Culture, Language, and Training Company), and she joined Indy Language Center in 2023. She offers both online and in-person lessons, specializing not only in language instruction but also in cultural training that helps students gain a deeper understanding of Korea beyond the classroom. Additionally, she volunteered for approximately five years as the Korean class instructor at Yongsan Shalom House in Seoul, a program supported by the Anglican Church of Korea.
Hwayoun has a deep love for travel and enjoys experiencing new cultures, especially through food and meaningful connections with people from around the world. She has even had the joy of meeting former students in their hometowns during her travels across Europe and America. She looks forward to continuing to build global friendships and hopes to meet more of her students around the world in the future.
